Dragon’s Delusion

Dragon’s Delusion, an anime tale of emperors and cyborgs set in 1960s Hong Kong, looks very promising. Let’s take a quick look at it.

Hong Kong’s unique urban landscape has been a popular model for science fiction films, from Blade Runner (1982) to Ghost in the Shell (1995). The city’s densely packed, constantly evolving environment, where old meets new and cultures clash, makes it the perfect setting for cyberpunk tales. Dragon’s Delusion is a Hong Kong animated feature that explores this theme.

The film is set in 1960s Hong Kong and features two well-known figures from Chinese history: Qin Shihuang and Qu Yuan. Qin, who was obsessed with finding the elixir of life, has created cyborgs that allow him to rule as emperor forever.

Qu finds himself trapped in the body of one of these robots, Mr. D, and asks the question: what does it mean to be human? Dragon’s Delusion is a visually stunning film that combines influences from Japanese anime, French impressionist art, and Hong Kong’s natural landscape.

The film has been described as a love letter to Hong Kong, featuring its fine scenery, gigantic neon signs, city-dwellers, and oddly interspersed mountains.

While local animations in Hong Kong are still under the radar, Dragon’s Delusion proves that they can thrive in the industry.

  • Dragon’s Delusion is a visually stunning anime with its own unique style
  • The plot and character writing are impressive, and the anime dissects the theme of identity
  • The anime is a love letter to Hong Kong, featuring its fine scenery and city-dwellers

Heavenly Delusion:
– Heavenly Delusion is a different anime from Dragon’s Delusion
– Heavenly Delusion is a mystery anime that has received positive reviews
– The anime contains imagery of sexual assault, so a content warning is advised

Dragon’s Delusion is a visually stunning anime that dissects the theme of identity and is a love letter to Hong Kong. While there is no mention of a game, Heavenly Delusion is a different anime that has received positive reviews but contains sensitive content.
