In the 1980s, Mirrorsoft commissioned programmers Dave and Sara Crud to create a ZX Spectrum game based on Steven Spielberg’s movie “Jaws.”
However, the game remained unreleased until Matt Round developed “Jaws: The Text Adventure,” which can now be played in a web browser. Recently, Einar Saukas has ported the HTML version of the game for the ZX Spectrum.
Using Sinclair BASIC statements, “Jaws: The Text Adventure” is a retro-style game that allows you to play as the fearsome shark with the objective of eating as much as possible. While the game lacks in-game music and only features beeps, it is still quite appealing as you devour animals and people, leaving others terrified to venture into the water[1].
It’s interesting to note that it took a considerable amount of time for the game to finally make its way to the ZX Spectrum. One might argue that it should have been released on the ZX Spectrum initially, rather than as an HTML version. Regardless of the version you choose to play, “Jaws: The Text Adventure” offers an enjoyable and immersive experience that truly makes you feel like the infamous shark.
