“Paradise Lost: First Contact” is a side-scrolling platformer game developed by Asthree Works.

Paradise Lost: First Contact is a side-scrolling Metroidvania platformer from indie developer Asthree Works. You play as an alien plant creature plotting a daring escape from a high-tech scientific facility. Expect classic exploration, ability upgrades, and backtracking to unlock new areas—think Metroid meets botanical horror.
Core mechanics revolve around fluid platforming and progressive unlocks. As the plant alien, you’ll vine-swing, grow temporary structures, and exploit environmental puzzles to break free. The Metroidvania structure shines in its interconnected labs and vents, rewarding curiosity with power-ups like enhanced mobility or combat tendrils. It’s promising for fans of atmospheric adventure, though full details remain under wraps pending release.
The reveal trailer hints at lush, hand-drawn visuals: eerie bioluminescent flora against sterile sci-fi labs, with smooth animations that evoke early 2010s indie charm. Sound design layers ambient hums, dripping echoes, and alien chirps for immersion—think a tense, organic soundtrack that amps up the isolation.
Launched via Kickstarter in 2013 with a 2014 release promise, the game has endured a decade-plus dev saga, drawing memes and scrutiny for sparse updates. Asthree Works cites perfectionism and scope creep, but the trailer’s polish suggests it’s nearing completion. Backers praise the unique premise, while skeptics eye vaporware risks—still, its cult following endures.
A tantalizing “what if” for Metroidvania lovers, held back only by time.
