Skool Daze was released way back in 1984 for the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64 a great success in the mid 1980s. There have been a number of remakes of this innovative classic, including last year’s great effort titled Skool Daze Reskooled for Android and iOS released by Alternative Software.
Alternative Software have just released Skool Daze Reskooled for Windows and Mac OS via Steam.
Skool Daze Reskooled is an officially licensed game that features updated graphics and gameplay and includes Skool Daze, it sequel – Back to Skool and the newly created Nu Skool.
Alternative Software have stated that Skool Daze Reskooled also features:
-a range of difficulty levels – if you’re not up to the real deal, you can change it to over 20000 lines to make it easier if you want.
-the ability to unlock and play as any character, allowing you to use their bonus skills, like catapult aiming.
-a fun scooter stunt mode.
-gamepad Support.
the ability to play in full screen or in a resizable window
THE REMAKES
The game that put RetroSpec well and truly on the map, and gained Richie a plethora of naked screaming fans, Klass of 99 is a modernised version of Dave Reidy’s classic Skooldaze.
Slick gameplay and lovely graphics come together in glorious union to create what has been hailed in some circles as a game worthy of full-price release. But to you mate, it’s free.. Rich is god.
STORY :
You are Eric, a troublesome schoolboy, and your task is to steal your report card out of the school safe in the staff room so that you don’t get into trouble! To do this, you must collect the combination letters for the safe and write them on a blackboard – not such an easy task seeing as one letter of the four letter combination is held by each of the teachers in the school. In order to get them to tell you their letter, you must make all of the shield scattered around the school flash by hitting them or firing your catapult at them. Once all the shields are flashing, knocking the teachers over with your catapult will cause them to tell you their letter of the combination. All except old Mr Creak, that is, who is so old he cannot be trusted to remember his letter. It has been hypnotically implanted in his mind and he will only remember it when he sees the number of the year that he was born!
To make things even harder, the school is teaming with kids and teachers and you are expected to attend lessons! Einstein is a swot and will tell on you if you do anything naughty, Angelface is a bully and will try and get you into trouble, and Boy Wander is a harmless rogue who loves to write on blackboards! Do anything wrong or be in the wrong place at the wrong time and you will be given lines! Collect over 10000 lines and you will be expelled from school!
Some shields are easy to reach, but others will require you to invent more ingenious methods of making them flash. Once you have your report, the chase isn’t over as the flashing shields attract the attention of the teacher’s to your crime! This means that you must then turn them all off again in order to complete the year! And then there’s next year….!

Remember Skool Daze on the Spectrum? This was the last time being called Eric was cool as you caused chaos in your school – doing lines and generally being the ‘naughty boy’. Well Alternative Software are bringing the game out on tablet and mobile platforms – they are bringing it up to date with a new visual style and more current day challenges.
