CINEMAWARE WINGS RETURN

Wings features various kind of gameplay:  3D dogfights, bombing missions, and scrolling strafing sections.

WINGS REMASTERED EDITION is ready

Nexus23 Wings Remastered Edition Review

Much has been done by Cinemaware Team to bring on our personal computers a decent Wings Remake, and we confirm: the job is nicely done. They made an excellent and reinvented the original version of this game by still improving it with suggestions of nostangic fans , especially via Twitter, thus enriching a true gem
directly from the Amiga Era in early 90’s.
The game works on Windows XP just having a decent GPU, enough RAM like 3GB and a Dual Core Processor.

“Player Names are limited to 15 characters, we don’t have much more space due to limitations on screen!”

Anyway much we expected came out without doubt.
You can choose red circles to highlight enemy target,
strafing missions are easiest than in the classic Wings.
Original Soundtrack is implemented on options, on gameplay you may listen at new sound effects.
During dogfights you may go in flight over and destroy artillery batteries.
Unfortunately the tail attack scene is not present in the game
although an intro screen shows a supposed red painted Albatros DII hitting an ally fighter.
Another thing missed is Colonel Farrah’s mouth expression during Medal Ceremonies!
The new fighter bomber design is pretty cool, as any mission scenario in summary.

Although after a dogfight final victory on last enemy plane broken down there are no more seconds to flight around those gorgeous aerial scenarios.
Also the damages on the plane that could cause an emergency planning should be improved,
too many times a crash between two planes or an artillery hit cause the pilot’s death on crash.

Wings Remastered, AOS4, sam460ex, crappy Radeon 9250: Strafing, polishing, almost done ;) This is a technically very heavy strafing level: a huge train with lots of AA-guns attached, tons of trees and rain – windowed. A true worst-case level regarding performance on that crappy Radeon 9250 (which delivers worse than the RadeonM inside the sam440ep). There are still optimizations left, but as you can see we’re on the safe side already.
