>Star Control II is a science fiction video game, the second game in the Star Control franchise. It was developed by Toys for Bob (Fred Ford and Paul Reiche III) and originally published by Accolade in 1992 for DOS. It was later ported to the 3DO in 1994 with an enhanced multimedia presentation, allowed by the CD technology. The source code of the 3DO port was licensed under the GNU GPL in 2002, the game content under a Creative Commons license. The game was then remade, with the project being called “The Ur-Quan Masters”.

The Seed Vault

The Svalbard Global Seed Vault is a secure seedbank located on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen near the town of Longyearbyen in the remote Arctic Svalbard archipelago.

The facility was established to preserve a wide variety of plant seeds from locations worldwide in an underground cavern.

The Seed Vault holds duplicate samples, or “spare” copies, of seeds held in genebanks worldwide.

In a rather obvious nod to Neal Stephenson’s snow crash virus in the novel “Snow Crash,” writers John Cabrera and Cosimo De Tommaso tell the story of how a brain-Internet interface, Hplus Nano Teoranta, which changes how humans interact with the Internet, is corrupted by a virus, wiping out a significant portion of the world population.
